Within

“As an organizer I start from where the world is, as it is, not as I would like it to be. That we accept the world as it is does not in any sense weaken our desire to change it into what we believe it should be - it is necessary to begin where the world is if we are going to change it to what we think it should be. That means working in the system.”

Busted

That's what my ankle is, fucking broken. 4 weeks, no hoops. :(

Hey Joe!

Boy, oh boy, was it loud. We skipped Pertrucci, well, we watched on the monitors and listened through the doors while we drank beer and ate nachos in the lobby. Satriani was, of course, incredible. He played Shalla-Bal, Potato Head, Crowd Chant, Always, Blue Dream, Cool #9, Ice 9, Satch Boogie, etc. Lots of stuff from Surfing With The Alien. Then they all played together. Foxy Lady and Purple Haze, Going Down and Some Rolling Stones Tune. The whole thing was almost 4 hours. Pretty cool.

Gilbert

Paul Gilbert has some fucking sick chops. Bruce Bouillet on Rhythm. They fucking rocked the house. Played RacerX, Mr. Big and Gilbert's solo stuff.

Satch!

Mrs. STFU&GBTW and I are going to see G3 tonight at The Grove in Anaheim. Satriani, Petrucci and Gilbert. I could give a rat's ass about Petrucci, but Joe is wicked awesome live and I'm excited to see Paul Gilbert. I got 4th row seats and The Grove is sma ... errr ... intimate so maybe I'll pop a pic up here from the show.

Hero

Politician admits to atheistic beliefs

Ouch

Guess which ankle I sprained playing hoops today? This was taken about 12 hours later, after rest and some ice. Came down on someone elses foot and rolled that sucker right over. Of course we lost, although it certainly wasn't because I got hurt, we all played like crap. We only dropped to 3-1, so we just have to bounce back next week. I seriously doubt that I'm going to be able to go play in our next game on thursday.

The ladder

Because nothing is ever just satire.

The ladder theory.

If it irks ya', it's probably because you know it's true.

"On a related note, this is probably why beautiful people tend to be boring. They never had to be interesting -- being beautiful was always interesting enough."

That, my friends, is gold.

Waitin'

"...I've read somewhere statistics show, the man's always the first to go, and that makes sense 'cause I know, she won't be ready..."

Look what I got !

One of W's friends was giving away their piano. Needs a tuning in a big way, but what the hell. Didn't cost nothin'. I'm way out of practice.

Playhouse Roof

This is from when I finished Saturday, before I had shingled the other side and put the ridge cap on. Don't get too excited, that half of the roof is only about 5'x10'

Back ... Back ... Back ...

I know, I know ... I said that it would be a cold day in hell before I ever went back to ****. Except now I think that after talking to JL at Siggraph last year and GW, and to some extent ES, at the bake off this year, I think that I've been talked into it. I sent GW a list of things that I would want if I were to go back. Number one on that list being a large amount of money, but if they can convince ** to OK it, then it's a done deal. The ball has been in my court for a while, once I made actual salary demands, it meant that GW and JL would go to bat for me to get it done, that means if it gets done, I can't back out. The kids are not going to be too happy if we go, but I think that it's my one shot at a gold statue. I don't think that I'm ever going to get it where I am. By the time I get that far ahead here, the industry is going to have moved overseas. Why not be proactive and go overseas first? If I go, I'm going to stay as long as I keep moving upward.

In other news, I put the roof on the playhouse this weekend. Roof. As in, tar paper and shingles. It wasn't as difficult as I imagined that it would be. Now I just have to wait for a good hard rain to see if I did a decent job or not. Windows and close up the eaves this weekend and then the girls can start working on the inside. Drywall, paint, ceiling, etc. As soon as I can get the "mobile blogging" to work I'll get some pix from my phone up.
