Where?

So, I'm watching SportsCenter last night, and they're doing a montage of different sports people and whatnot wearing Virgina Tech hats during a baseball game, VT on the hood of their stock car, a first baseman writing the Hokie's logo in the dirt at first base, blah, blah, blah ... you know what? It pisses me off. Every day I read the news there's a story about 30 people that have been killed in Iraq by a suicide bomber. Every Day. Sometimes twice a day. Where, I ask you, is The fucking outrage? Iraq has a 'Virginia Tech' ... every day.

Soon

I guess I spoke too soon. I'm barely 200 yards from my house on the way to work this morning. I must've driven through some water or oil. Stop at a light, right turn, accelerate out of the turn ... zing, I lose traction and the back tire of my bike decides that it's had enough of this shit and damn it, it's going to lead the way for a while and slides out to the left. Way, way out. I eased off of the throttle, and held on as tight as I could ... BAM! ... back end grabs and she tried really, really hard to throw me off on the high side. I came within about a tenth of a second of bailing out. Got wacked ... hard ... right above the boot on my right shin by the footpeg when the back end grabbed traction. I stayed relatively calm, but I could've done a little better. I think that I'm Getting a new back tire this weekend. :)

Welcome

So I went to lunch late, and alone, so I walked across the street to Togo's. People don't usually want to eat there but seeing as I was by myself, and felt like a pastrami sandwich, I decided to make the trek. To get there, you have to walk through a small park that's one of the daytime hangouts for homeless types in CS. There weren't too many today, just two guys in sleeping bags. So while I'm at Togo's, I got my lunch and spent and extra $5 on a large turkey and bacon sandwich. On the way back through the park, I stopped at the first guy and said "dude, I got you some lunch". He was hammered and sleeping it off. I slapped him on the arm, but there was no waking that guy up so I left half of the extra sandwich right by his head. I went over to the other guy/girl? and left the second half of the sandwich there. No waking up. So I'm waiting to cross a street and I look back and one of the other guys hanging at the park is walking over to sleeping bag guy #1. He bends down to see if he's paying attention and then snags the sub. Checks it out to see if it's kosher and then walks away with it.

Welcome to The Jungle Motherfucker.

Numbers

The stupid people are outbreeding the smart people.

From TFA (Newsweek poll)

Newsweek also asked poll respondents about modern biology.

Nearly half (48 percent) of the public rejects the scientific theory of evolution; one-third (34 percent) of college graduates say they accept the Biblical account of creation as fact. Seventy-three percent of Evangelical Protestants say they believe that God created humans in their present form within the last 10,000 years; 39 percent of non-Evangelical Protestants and 41 percent of Catholics agree with that view.

These poll results come just a few months after an international study was conducted to measure which countries were the most accepting on evolutionary biology. Of the 34 countries involved, the United States ranked 33rd. Only Turkey ranked lower.

Joke?

Are you fucking kidding me?

Nader wants Gore to run as Green Party Candidate in '08

From TFA.

"Sources close to Gore said Ralph Nader has sought to recruit the former vice president to run as the candidate for the Green Party. They said Gore has not rejected the offer and was consulting with family and friends to determine the feasibility of such a candidacy."

Is this some kind of sick joke? It wasn't enough for Nader to submarine Gore's candidacy in '00, now he wants to use Gore to torpedo the Democratic candidate in '08. Ralph Nader needs to Die In A Fire. Gore will siphon huge numbers of Democratic votes away from the Dem nominee. Does he really want Guilliani to be president? Does he get that this is not a true democracy? Fuck Ralph Nader.
