Obama's pick didn't create as much buzz as McCain's but makes more sense in the long run. Obama needs to assure that he would not stumble onto the world stage as Carter did in his first years, and he could use some help in getting tough on the Republicans. An old time democratic fighter might also help to frame the election as fight between the Republicans who screwed up and the Democrats who are the only ones left standing to repair the damage. I would have prefered Hillary, not because I like her, I don't, but because she would have brought home the points even better - I do understand though that there must be trust between the candidates.
